3 Dead, 4 Hurt in Bronx Fires

Three people died and four were hurt Saturday in three fires in different parts of the Bronx, officials said.

Two of the fires occurred almost simultaneously.

At 5:59 a.m., police responded to a home on Guion Place in Parkchester. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and discovered a badly burned 26-year-old man on the second floor. The victim was identified as Carlos Villafane, police said.

At 6 a.m., police arrived at a home on Beach Avenue in Soundview. Firefighters put the fire out and found a woman in her 60s unconscious in the basement. She was declared dead at the hospital, police said. A 59-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were hospitalized in critical condition, while two men, ages 68 and 80, were hospitalized in stable condition.

Police haven't disclosed the identity of the woman who died.

The third fire occurred at about 7:50 p.m. at house on East 228th Street in the Edenwald neighborhood, officials said. A 76-year-old man, whose name wasn't disclosed by police, died in the fire.
