2 Women Killed, 3 Kids Hospitalized in Newark Blaze

Two women were killed and three children were hospitalized after a fast-moving fire ripped through a northern New Jersey home.

Newark fire officials told NJ.com that firefighters responded to the Oakland Terrace home at around 6:35 a.m. Sunday. The blaze was brought under control about an hour later.

Charlotte McKinney, 65, and her 41-year old daughter Tonia McKinney were both pronounced dead at the scene, Essex County prosecutors said.

The three children and another adult hurt in the blaze were being treated for undisclosed injuries, and further information on their conditions were not released.

The fire is being investigated by the Newark fire department's arson division and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office's arson task force.
