2 Dead, 2 Injured in Prom Night Crash in New Jersey: State Police

Two teenage prom-goers were killed and two others seriously injured when their car slammed into a tree early Saturday morning in New Jersey, state police said.

The teens were returning from a high school prom at about 3:45 a.m. when the driver, Daisia Sulton, 17, lost control of her Chrysler PT Cruiser on a curve on Route 49, crossed the center line and hit a tree in Maurice River Township, troopers said.

Sulton was killed in the accident, as was a passenger, 15-year-old Mikayla Mosley, investigators said.

Two other passengers, Jada Barriengo, 17, and Zyiah Stocks, 16, were seriously injured and taken to an area hospital, they said. Stocks was said to be in critical condition; information about Barriengo's condition wasn't available.

All of the girls were from Bridgeton and had celebrated their Bridgeton High School prom night before the accident, according to social media posts.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
