Arrest Made in Brighton Boardwalk Shooting

Police arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a shooting at the Brighton Beach boardwalk last week that left a 16-year-old girl dead and four men wounded.

Police said Iloune Driver, of Brooklyn, was charged Monday with one count each of second-degree murder and assault with intent to cause serious physical injury.

It wasn't immediately known if Driver had an attorney. Police are looking for at least one more shooter.

The NYPD on Monday backed off original suspicions that the shooting was gang-related, and said it was in retaliation for an earlier incident when someone hit one of Driver's friends over the head with an umbrella.

The intended target of the gunfire was not one of the five people shot.

The daylight shooting, which happened on the hottest day of the year in the city thus far, sent mothers and children scrambling for cover and turned what was a perfect beach day for many into a nightmare.

Tysha Jones died in the melee Thursday and four men in their 20s were shot when two gunmen opened fire on the crowded boardwalk.

Family and friends gathered Friday in East Harlem to remember the teenager who died when bullets started flying at about 5:30 p.m. that day.

Jones was shot under the left armpit and died at Coney Island Hospital.
