1 Wounded in Shooting at Reservation on Long Island

A person was wounded early Saturday morning in a shooting at the Shinnecock Indian Reservation on Long Island, New York State Police said.

The shooting occurred at about 12:40 a.m. on the reservation in Southampton.

Investigators learned of the incident after being called to Southampton Hospital, police said.

Information about the condition of the victim, whose identity wasn't disclosed, wasn't available. The victim was later air-lifted to the University Medical Center in Stony Brook.

A Shinnecock spokeswoman did not respond to an email seeking comment.

A reservation resident, Mark M. Williams, 33, was arrested for allegedly impeding the crime scene investigation.

It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney who could comment on his arrest.

Two people were shot at the reservation last month. The investigation into that shooting is still ongoing.
