Suspect Sought in Brooklyn Shooting That Wounded Child

The shooting happened on Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island

Authorities are seeking a man suspected of shooting and wounding a 10-year-old boy and a 25-year-old man in Brooklyn Saturday evening.

According to police, the shooting happened at around 7 p.m. on Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island. The child was shot above his right knee, while the man was shot in the abdomen.

Both were rushed to a nearby hospital in stable condition, police said.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are not yet clear, but police have released an image of the suspected gunman (see above). Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.

Abdullah Mohsen, who owns a store nearby, ran outside when he heard the shots and said he saw that the boy had been shot in the leg and the man had an upper-body wound.

Moshen said the boy was crying.

“I feel sorry about him,” he said. “Little boy, you know."
