Cafe des Artistes

Call it the Diamond Jim Brady restaurant feast, because discount Winter Restaurant Week it's not.

Zagat Thursday announced the launch of the Vintage Dinner Series, a movable feast at 16 restaurants starting January 12 at Café des Artistes and winding up March 25 at Aureole.

As if that's not enough, all the chefs will be fixing a one-off over-the-top menu inspired by 19th century menus and legendary diners like Diamond Jim Brady.

Kicking off the event at Le Bernardin Thursday morning, Tim Zagat told NewYorkology.com that he and his team hit up the New York Public Library and the New-York Historical Society to research period cuisine to help with menus.

Prices vary by restaurant, but none are cheap. All prices include wine and tip - and a portion of it all goes to charity. The full list includes Del Posto's $195 nine-course menu titled "An ode to Pellegrino Artusi (1820–1911)" with two-colored soup, fresh cockles/clams in egg sauce and Stuffed Veal Cutlets; Gramercy Tavern's $250 " Colonial American Menu" with Williamsburg Salted Cod Gumbo; and Café des Artiste's $160 six-course recreation of the menu from the movie "Babette's Feast."
