Two New Yorkers Vying for “Sexiest Vegetarian”

Queens and Brooklyn looking to take crowns

Animal-loving organization PETA has long touted their sexy members, like Pamela Anderson and Holly Madison, but now they are truly going for the girl-next-door look in a new contest to find the hottest non-celebrity vegetarian.

And, go figure, two New Yorkers have made the final cut.

"Heroes" star Milo Ventimiglia and country music singer Kellie Pickler are currently the reigning king and queen of PETA's annual "Sexiest Vegetarian Alive" contest -- but Brooklyn's Matt Mims and Queens' Nicole Angela Amendolare hope to take the crowns for  "Sexiest Vegetarians Next Door."

Amendolare, 29, of Rego Park, went vegetarian in 2007 after taking PETA's 30-day "Pledge to Be Veg," according to the group.  She says that the benefits have been amazing and has dropped six dress sizes since making the switch.

Mims, 25, plays in a band that promotes animal rights through its music and graduated from Princeton University, where he studied anthropology and wrote his 100-page senior thesis on how to combat discrimination against other species.

The two beat out hundreds of other entrants from across the U.S. to become two of 20 contestants (10 male and 10 female) to advance to the final round.

PETA claims that vegetarians are sexier than meat-eaters, but if you've ever seen Padma Lakshmi eat a bacon cheeseburger you might beg to differ.

You can vote for the New Yorkers (or whomever else you choose) in PETA's contest here.
