New York Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos says his conference will return to Albany next month to act on a new plan for closing a massive budget gap.

The Senate Republicans say they will advance their own legislation that's still in the works on Dec. 15.

The Senate and Democrat-led Assembly met earlier this week for a special session that Gov. David Paterson called for. Paterson had put forth a package of proposals intended to save more than $5 billion over two years.

But after bickering and finger pointing and a rowdy public leaders' meeting, no action was taken to address a looming deficit. Paterson estimates next year's budget deficit will be up to $15 billion.

Calls to the governor's office and to the Assembly were not immediately returned.
