Report: MTA Express Bus, Subway Fares to Rise
Express bus riders could pay as much as $7.50 a trip

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority plans to raise fares on express buses and special van services, according to a published report.
The MTA budget proposal will raise express bus fares by 50 percent and double the fare disabled riders pay for special van service, according to the Daily News.
Express bus riders could pay $7.50 per trip, up from $5, according to the report.
Faced with its worst financial problems in more than two decades, the MTA is seeking a 23 percent increase in fares and toll revenues next year to make up for the growing budget gap. The increases are intended to raise about $600 million in 2009 to put a dent in the $1.2 billion expected deficit.
Base subway and bus fares would increase to at least $2.50, from $2, and the cost of unlimited-ride monthly MetroCards could rise to $100, according to the New York Times.
