Lesbian Lawyer Sues Firm for $50

Fired attorney claims firm discriminated against her

A fired lesbian lawyer is suing her former firm for $50 million, saying she endured "repulsive harassment and discrimination" because of her sexual orientation. And now she wants to be rehired as a partner.

Julie Kamps, who wears men's clothing and "does not fit into typical feminine stereotypes," according to the lawsuit, claimed at least one partner at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson wrote "highly negative, gay-bashing and damaging comments" about her, according to The New York Post.

The derogations were posted online, purportedly in response to a complaint Kamps filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Manhattan after she got fired.

According to the complaint, the firm subjected Kamps to a long course of adverse action, including firing her during the Jan. 12 mediation session aimed at settling the matter.

"I have been mistreated by Fried, Frank and hope to shine a light on the differences between the firm's official policies and what the partners actually do," said Kamps.

A spokeswoman for the firm told the Daily News that Kamps' allegations have no merit.

"This lawsuit has no substance and will be dealt with by our lawyers," Paula Zirinsky said.

Kamps has her own Web site, which says she now lives in California with her wife.
