Late for Work? MTA Makes It Easier to Blame Trains

Late for work? The agency that runs the city's subway system is making it easier for tardy straphangers to blame it on train delays.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority now offers delay verification reports on the Web, complete with excuse notes that riders can show to disgruntled employers.

All straphangers have to do is enter a subway station, the time of their trip, any transfer information, their name and e-mail address, and they'll get the information automatically.

The MTA unveiled the improvement Friday.

Previously people had to write the agency to get written verification about late trains.

About 37,000 riders wrote away for an excuse letter last year.
