Long Island Rail Road service was suspended between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma for over an hour due to the derailment of a freight train.
The railroad said the derailment occurred at 9:10 a.m. Thursday east of Deer Park when a New York & Atlantic Railway train went of the tracks. Service resumed at 10:40 a.m.
Paul Victor, a spokesman for New York & Atlantic, said no one was injured. He said one of the two main tracks in the area of the derailment is blocked, the other is clear.
New York & Atlantic Railway leases the use of the tracks from the LIRR. It is a subsidiary of Anacostia & Pacific Company.
