Brooklyn Man Killed During Bike Trip of Canada

A 23-year-old environmental activist from Brooklyn was killed last Thursday when he was struck by a tractor-trailer while riding through Canada.

Andrew Wolf, who along with 18 other cyclists, was riding through New Brunswick with the Ottawa-based Otesha Project, which promotes environmental activism and sustainability and holds frequent bicycle tours.

The accident occurred on a four-lane stretch of highway, and also involved two other cyclists, who were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

"[Thursday] it was a very nice day, it was sunny and very dry,” Cpl. Robert Landry told CBC News However, there was lots of wind on top of that hill. However, there's nothing else that would be factor, I don't believe."

"We are contemplating charges," said RCMP Sgt. Rick Bernard to CBC News. "But at this time, it's too early to say what charges will be laid against the driver of the vehicle."

Wolf’s family has set up a memorial fund in his name, The Andrew Wolf Memorial Bursary Fund, which says in a statement that it will be, “used to support passionate young people like Andrew, who are striving to make a difference in the world.”
