A teenage girl from the Bronx is accused of burning a kitten to death in an oven and then dismissing the gruesome incident as a joke, the New York Daily News reported.

Cheyenne Cherry, 17, allegedly confessed to police that she broke into her ex-roommate's apartment and put the cat in the oven, The News reported.

The animal suffered "an agonizing death," according to ASPCA official Joe Pentangelo.

"I think what was done cries out for justice," Pentangelo told the paper. "It's a shame that this kitten had to suffer like this. For the kitten to get caught up in whatever was going on with them is a tragedy."

Authorities said Thursday the kitten, named Tiger Lily, belonged to the teen's former roommate Valerie Hernandez.

The suspected teen and an accomplice left the apartment as the cat cried and scratched at the oven door, according to Pentangelo.

They also allegedly slashed furniture and threw bleach on the walls, The News reported.

Cherry was arrested by the ASPCA Wednesday in connection with the May 6 incident. She now faces charges of arson, burglary, criminal trespass and felony aggravated animal cruelty.

          Turning New Jersey Red

It was somewhere off the New Jersey Turnpike, Exit 4 I think, sitting in a dark room looking through a one-way mirror, eating bad food and too many M&M’s; something was happening I hadn’t seen in awhile.
