Blaze Destroys Vacant Coney Island Building

Was the former Coney Island Arcade

A two-alarm fire on Wednesday night destroyed a part of a former amusement park in Coney Island last night.

The fire call came in at 8:06 p.m. and was put under control at 10:41 p.m., according to FDNY officials. The 1-story vacant building was
the site of the former Coney Island Arcade.

The fire is currently under investigation, although officials would not say if it looked suspicious.

Eight firefighters were treated for minor injuries, according to FDNY officials.

Gothamist reports the fire claimed the life of Targette, one of two cats living in the vacant building.  Her brother, Target, survived.  The owner of the building is said to be in China for an amusement park convention.
