Bedbugs Invade Empire State Building

Move over King Kong. Bedbugs are the latest creatures to invade the Empire State Building.

The pesky bugs were found in an employee changing room in the basement of the skyscraper last week, according to the Daily News.

An employee apparently had found the bedbugs on his clothes and brought them inside, but exterminators were called in to spray and the building was given an all clear.

The bedbug epidemic has hit businesses, movie theaters and homes across the five boroughs. The city fielded 11,000 complaints about bedbugs last year. And the city's iconic skyscraper, apparently, is no exception.

Tourists visiting the skyscraper say they are disgusted by the bloodsucking pests.

"Like so many other buildings in New York City, the Empire State Building had a small incident of bedbugs," the building said in a statement. "The occurrence was specific to a uniform storage area in the basement of the building. The area has been treated and fully cleared."
