It was an emotional reunion for a Bronx mother and her two young daughters Friday afternoon, after the two disappeared from their apartment at Trinity avenue and 165th street the night before -- triggering a statewide Amber Alert.
"I'm just grateful and thankful to everybody," said mom Shawna Brunson.
Authorities issued the Amber Alert at about at around 1:30 p.m. Friday after four-year-old Shaylenn Brunson went missing from their Morrisania home along with her sister, 12-year-old Shyuana -- who police described as having a "diminished mental capacity."
The two had actually disappeared Thursday night just after 10:30 p.m., sparking a desperate search that included police, neighbors and the girl's grandmother.
The missing children were found at about 3:40 p.m. by NYPD School Safety officers after walking into MS 301 Middle School on Caldwell Avenue.
This wasn't the first time the 12-year-old disappeared -- her mother says she went missing last weekend -- but it was the first time she took the four-year-old with her.
Now that the two girls are back home, Brunson is hoping the oldest learns a big lesson -- of what not to do.
