Is Vanessa Hudgens getting ready to howl with the cast of “Twilight?”

The “High School Musical” star is being considered for a role in the “Twilight” sequel, “New Moon,” Access Hollywood has confirmed.

Vanessa has auditioned for the role of Leah Clearwater, the series’ lone female werewolf, and is “up for the role,” a source close to Summit Entertainment confirmed.

However, “no official casting announcement has been made,” the source added.

If Vanessa does land the part, she’s already got a thumbs up from one of her would-be co-stars.

“I think she’d be great,” Ashley Greene, who plays Alice Cullen in the film series, told MTV.com.

And in what could prove to be a foreshadowing of their on-screen pairing, Vanessa and Taylor Lautner, who plays “New Moon” werewolf Jacob Black, were on-hand together over the weekend at Access Hollywood’s third annual “Stuff You Must” Golden Globes gift lounge.

Vanessa’s potential character would not be a love interest for Taylor’s character though – in the sequel, Jacob Black becomes romantically involved with Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart).

The two were just a few of the stars who helped raise money at the gift lounge for the charities of Access’ Nancy O’Dell and Billy Bush – Best Buddies & Lollipop Theater Network.

Taylor also showed off his new bulked-up physique for his return as Jacob in “New Moon.”

“I get into the gym every single day, seven days a week, two hours a day, eat as much as I possibly can,” he told Access. “[I’m] going crazy.”

Taylor said he’s put on 26 pounds since starting his training regimen the day after he finished filming “Twilight” — and he’s not done yet.

“I put on 20 pounds and then I guaranteed 10 more pounds,” he said. “I’ve already put on about six, so four more pounds. I’m a man of my word.”

  • Helen Friday, Jan 16 at 2:14 AM FLAG COMMENT Summit plus producers of NEW MOON, please do not cast Vanessa. Her name may be known but she really does not fit it with the Twilight cast. Her image does not fit. If she is cast all I will be able to see when she is on screen is not LEAH but VANESSA HUDGENS. I will just think it's Vanessa Hudgens the Disney Star or HSM girl and I will NOT see LEAH. I will not hear LEAH's dialogue but I will be analyzing VH's acting ability. I ... MORE >
  • Anonymous Thursday, Jan 15 at 12:30 PM FLAG COMMENT Leah Clearwater doesn't even show up until Eclipse...whatever. I want Vanessa to get the role I think she would be totally awesome! All the people that say they will get really mad and hate the series if they put her in are just not true fans. True fans would support the decision. So if you are a true fan, get an attitude check.
