Starbucks Offers ‘Cool' Afternoon Discount

Want a Starbucks' grande-sized ice beverage for $2 bucks? You can have one but it comes with a venti-sized catch. Hoping to drum up repeat customers looking for a late afternoon caffeine fix, the struggling coffee chain is offering a half-price discount on most grande-sized iced drinks—provided that customers bring a receipt proving they bought a regular-priced beverage during a visit that morning. Bring the receipt, and get an iced grande beverage for $2 after 2 p.m. The deal, which was previously only available in select markets, is being expanded nationwide until Sept 2. The discount comes as the high-priced java joint seeks to meet customer's demand for value in era of an inflation. The store was recently forced to close 600 stores nationwide as part of an effort to boost its struggling stock. "I think we've kind of hit the nail on the head," said Brad Stevens, vice president of customer relationship management for Starbucks. "It's easy for baristas to implement and it's easy for customers to understand."
