Former Mayor Ed Koch can now get a favorable reply to his famous "How'm I doing?" inquiry.
A spokesman for the former three-term mayor said Koch is recuperating nicely at New York Presbyterian Hospital after Friday's open-heart surgery.
Koch, 84, even sat up for the first time and asked for ice cream.
His spokesman said Koch's famous sense of humor is making a quick comeback despite the difficult quadruple bypass and valve replacement.
Koch's surgeon was Dr. Craig Smith, who performed a bypass on former President Bill Clinton in 2004.
After the five-hour procedure, Koch, who had a heart attack in 1999, was expected to need a week to recover, then three weeks of rehab.
