Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

Sen. Arlen Specter has some explaining to do on Sunday.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius makes her debut as a member of President Barack Obama’s Cabinet on this Sunday’s talk shows, and Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter makes the rounds to explain his switch to the Democratic Party.

Fresh from her Senate confirmation, Sebelius stops by the four major Sunday shows to try to assuage fears over the spread of the swine flu. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and the acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Richard Besser, will join her along the way.

Specter shares the bill with the administration’s flu team on CBS’s “Face the Nation” and NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Elsewhere, the retirement of U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter takes top billing.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Pat Leahy (D-Vt.) and Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) sit down with moderator George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.”

And Leahy is also on CNN’s “State of the Union,” along with Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.), Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

“Fox News Sunday,” meanwhile, hosts Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and John Ensign (R-Nev.), in addition to the flu team.

Also, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan heads to C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” to take questions from The Washington Post’s Zachary Goldfarb and The Associated Press’ Alan Zibel.

And Securities and Exchange Commission Chairwoman Mary Schapiro sits down with host Al Hunt on Bloomberg TV’s “Political Capital.”
