The Jets organization surprised everyone last night by luring trophy quarterbackBret Favre to New York. The idea seemed inconceivable yesterday as most assumed that Favre's talks with the team were simply leverage against the Packers organization and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But the almost certain Hall of Fame player––a 3-time MVP and Super Bowl winner––was dealt to New York, pleasing Jets fans and removing him as a potential threat in the Packer's own division. Green Bay may have been done with Favre, but they did not want to have to compete against their former quarterback during the regular season. Mike Lupica writes in the Daily News that gaining Favre makes the Jets an entirely new team and temporarily has moved them out of the shadow of the Superbowl Champion Giants, with whom they share a stadium. Fans' reactions in Green Bay were split. Some were glad to see Favre go and the tumult of his retire-unretire act to end. Others expressed disgust at the Packers' management for allowing one of the most popular players in the game don a different uniform. For what it's worth, Sheryl Crow weighed in on Favre's departure during a concert in Wisconsin. When met with a mixture of cheers and boos after she brought up the quarterback's departure, she seemed incredulous that Packers fans might really be over Favre. The Green Bay Gazette quotes her reaction: "'Oh no, I'm sad to hear that,'' she said. 'You're really over Brett? Oh well ...'''
