CHICAGO -- For comedy writers everywhere, the drama surrounding Illinois politics has been manna from heaven.
Now they're at it again, with the Rod Blagojevich saga proving the latest fodder for laughs. "Rod Blagojevich Superstar!" will make its stage debut on the Second City e.t.c. stage (1608 North Wells in Piper's Alley, Chicago) in February.
The production is similar to '70s rock operas, particularly the Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Weber classic Jesus Christ Superstar. But in this case, Jesus and Mary Magdalene have been replaced by Rod and Patti Blagojevich and the apostles have turned into the likes of Roland Burris, Patrick Fitzgerald, Dick Mell and Lisa Madigan.
"Rod Blagojevich Superstar! is what happens when talent and producers drink too much at the Second City holiday party, begin to brainstorm ideas and decide to write, compose and open a show in 2 weeks," a press release said.
