Nineteen members of a Bronx-based street gang, dubbed the "Slut Gang," face federal charges of racketeering, narcotics conspiracy, firearms violations, robbery, and extortion, law enforcement sources said.
Teams of ICE and DEA agents along with the NYPD arrested 12 gang members Wednesday and early Thursday, the sources said. Three others were previously in custody and four more are still being sought.
It was not immediately clear how the gang settled on its unusual name.
The gang operated mainly at the Boston Secor public housing development and was a rival gang of the Big Money Bosses and the 2Fly YGz gangs, both of which were previously charged in April of last year.
The Slut Gang's numerous acts of violence include stabbings, slashings, beatings, extortion, and robberies, court papers say.
Details of the investigation are expected to be released later Thursday by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan.
All the gang members arrested Thursday will appear in federal court in Manhattan in the afternoon.
