Phylicia Rashad Leads New Play at Public Theater

Theater veteran Phylicia Rashad will return to The Public Theater this spring in the New York premiere of Tarell Alvin McCraney’s play “Head of Passes,” which begins previews on March 15 prior to an official March 28 opening.

The drama, directed by Tina Landau, tells the story of a family reunion and birthday celebration at home of Shelah (Rashad), whose world appears to be collapsing around her.

The story is a contemporary parable inspired by the Book of Job.

Joining Rashad will be Alana Arenas, Francois Battiste, Kyle Beltran and J. Bernard Calloway.

Rashad last appeared at The Public in 2003’s production of Tracey Scott Wilson’s “The Story.”
