‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses' Revival Coming to NYC

"Les Liaisons Dangereuses," a play about power and seduction in 18th century France, will return to Broadway's embrace this fall.

Tony winners Liev Schreiber ("Talk Radio") and Janet McTeer ("Mary Stuart") will return to Broadway this fall for Christopher Hampton's revival of the 1985 stage adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos’s novel.

The play tells the story of Vicomte de Valmont (Schreiber) and Marquise de Merteuil (McTeer), two ex-lovers and rivals who in pre-revolutionary France who engage in a game of manipulation and seduction.

The novel has been depicted several times on stage and in film, including in 1999's "Cruel Intentions" starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon.

Hampton's stage adaptation was last presented on Broadway in 2008 by the Roundabout Theatre Company and starred Oscar nominee Laura Linney.

The 15-week limited engagement will begin on Oct. 8 and run through Jan. 22 at the Booth Theatre. Opening night is scheduled for Oct. 30.

Directed by Josie Rourke, the production comes from London’s Donmar Warehouse, after a sold-out engagement also starring McTeer. No additional casting has been announced.

This will be Schreiber’s first time back on Broadway since the 2010 revival of "A View From the Bridge" -- for which he received a Tony nomination. He can currently be seen playing the title role in the Showtime series "Ray Donovan."
