‘Fiddler on the Roof' Revival Will Close at End of Year

The Broadway revival of Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick's "Fiddler on the Roof" will play its final performance at the Broadway Theatre on Dec. 31. At the time of its closing, it will have played 464 performances.

The acclaimed production, starring six-time Tony nominee Danny Burstein, boasts a cast of 40 actors and an orchestra of 23 musicians -- one of the biggest on Broadway.

It's also playing in one of Broadway's biggest houses, with 1,761 seats to fill every night. (That's over 400 more than "Hamilton" has to sell at the Richard Rodgers Theatre by comparison.)

Sales for the musical have dropped in recent weeks, after the three-time Tony nominated production went home empty handed on Broadway's biggest night. Last week, the show grossed less than 50 percent of its potential $1.5 million box office, according to numbers provided by the Broadway League.

"We felt that it was important to provide people with enough time to come see this great musical in a definitive production," producer Jeffrey Richards said in a statement. "Who knows the next time one will be able to experience this award-winning show on Broadway!"
