Cast Recording for Broadway's “Hamilton” Tops Billboard Rap Charts

Broadway’s “Hamilton” has made history… again.

The original Broadway cast recording of the Lin-Manuel Miranda-musical landed on top of the Billboard Rap Album charts for the week of November 28, marking the first time a musical cast recording has ever topped the Rap Album charts.

Miranda shared the news on Twitter:

“Hamilton” beat out Fetty Wap’s self-titled debut album, which slipped to No. 2 on the charts. Drake, The Game and Future round out the rest of the Top 5.

The 46-track LP, which hit stores Oct. 16, was executive produced by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, founding members of the Grammy-winning hip-hop band The Roots.

This isn’t the first time the “Hamilton” cast recording has made history on the Billboard charts.

After the album’s digital release on Sept. 25, “Hamilton” debuted on the Billboard 200 chart in October at No. 12 — the highest debut for a cast recording since the chart combined its mono and stereo tallies in 1963.

The last cast recording to place this hgh was “Camelot,” which landed in the No. 4 spot on the mono album chart back in January of 1961.

Only six cast albums have ever reached the Billboard Top 20 in the last 50 years. Those include “If/Then,” “The Book of Mormon,” “Rent,” 1982’s “Dreamgirls” and 1969’s “Hair.”

“Hamilton” is currently playing to sold-out audiences at Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theater. For tickets and information, visit www.hamiltonbroadway.com.
