Dramatic Rescue as 7 Plunge into Icy Central Park Pond

Seven young people were rescued from a pond in Central Park after they suddenly plunged through the ice on an unseasonably warm February holiday, authorities say.  By the time FDNY arrived at the park by 59th Street and Central Park South, the kids, ranging in age from about 10 into the teens, had been pulled out of the water, according to two passersby who said they rescued the children. The good Samaritans, Bennett Jonas and Ethan Turnbull, told reporters they were skating nearby when they saw the kids dancing on top of the ice, then suddenly plunging into the water.  "I look over, I saw six heads just trying to get to the shore," said Jonas. "The back one was probably a good 20 yards from dry land."  Jonas dived in as Turnbull stood by to grab them.  "The last two at the end, the kid at the end was unconscious," said Turnbull. "[Jonas] got him out, he was kind of out of breath, and [Jonas] threw him to me. I just kind of mind

Trump's 2nd Month Faces Health Care, Tax Overhaul: Analysis

As President Donald Trump begins his second month in office, his team is trying to move past the crush of controversies that overtook his first month and make progress on health care and tax overhauls long sought by Republicans. Both issues thrust Trump, a real estate executive who has never held elected office, into the unfamiliar world of legislating. The president has thus far relied exclusively on executive powers to muscle through policy priorities and has offered few details about what he'll require in any final legislative packages, like how the proposals should be paid for. The White House also sent conflicting signals about whether the president will send Congress his own legislative blueprints or let lawmakers drive the process.

Woman, 88, Plows into NJ Neighbor's Home: Police

An 88-year-old woman plowed through a house in New Jersey Monday, destroying the front of the home, authorities say. Police said the driver lost control and crashed through the house next door to where she lives on Mountain Avenue in Washington Township at about 1:30 p.m., throwing debris into the front yard.   The homeowner was the only person home at the time but was in another room and uninjured, police said. A dog in the living room was briefly trapped by the vehicle but was rescued and is OK, the homeowner said.  The house sustained serious structural damage, and buildings inspectors will determine if the home will need to be condemned. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. She received a summons for careless driving.
