Review: Stroman's "Big Fish" Falters

The classic Susan Stroman choreography makes a splash, but a humdrum score ultimately leaves this father-son story stuck in the shallows.

White Supremacist in NYC Killing Says 'Sorry': Report

The white supremacist accused of fatally stabbing a black man with a sword in New York City said he would have rather killed a younger — or older and more "successful" black victim. "I'm sorry I killed that man," James Harris Jackson told the New York Daily News at the Rikers Island jail on Sunday. "It was pitch black, I picked a dark place. I didn't know he was elderly." Jackson, 28, told the newspaper he would have killed "a young thug" or "a successful older black man with blondes ... people you see in Midtown." Police say he confessed to randomly picking out victim Timothy Caughman on the street and stabbing him to death with a 2-foot sword. Caughman had lived in a former motel in Manhattan for 18 years, sharing the building with tenants who were part of a temporary housing program, according to NBC New York. Jackson has been charged with murder as a hate-crime.

Baby Giraffe Quiets in April's Belly: Calm Before the Storm?

As April the giraffe's belly grows ever larger, her highly anticipated calf has gotten quiet, leading zookeepers to wonder if this is the calm before the storm. The giraffe calf caused a stir Friday when it launched a "judo chop marathon" inside its mother's belly but it calmed down significantly on Saturday. April's keeper noted Sunday morning that she's showing "notable bulges" on the left side of her belly, the zoo reported on its Facebook page. Watch the live stream below. [[414784803, C]] April has been taking it slow Sunday, alternating between waddling around her pen and standing still, staring into Oliver's pen. The snow has cleared so April and her beau Oliver may go outside soon, the zoo said. The zoo said that April's belly growth has been mind-blowing. She has to fit a 6-foot, 150-pound calf somewhere, it said. Eventually, it has to come out, right? [[26343834, C]] When April goes into labor, t

US Condemns Arrests of Corruption Protesters Across Russia

Russia's opposition, often written off by critics as a small and irrelevant coterie of privileged urbanites, put on an impressive nationwide show of strength Sunday with dozens of protest across the vast country. Hundreds were arrested, including Alexei Navalny, the anti-corruption campaigner who is President Vladimir Putin's most prominent critic. It was the biggest show of defiance since a 2011-2012 wave of demonstrations rattled the Kremlin and led to harsh new laws aimed at suppressing dissent. Almost all of Sunday's rallies were unsanctioned, but thousands braved the prospect of arrest to gather in cities from the Far East port of Vladivostok to the "window on the West" of St. Petersburg.
