Woodstock, NY
Woodstock has gone through a recent revival, and it’s got nothing to do with rock ’n roll. What you’ll find instead is a country chic mix of boutiques, galleries and restaurants. Hit the Phoenicia Diner — a midcentury modern must — for breakfast, then do some shopping at standouts like The Golden Notebook (a fantastic independent bookstore) and Woodstock General Supply for rugged but stylish leisurewear. Hit the galleries during the afternoon, then come nightfall it’s Cucina (an Italian spot with Jean-Georges roots) for dinner followed by a cozy night at Woodstock Way, a collection of riverside cabins in the middle of town.

Lakeville, CT
Connecticut is known for its suburbs and seashores, but tucked up north in Litchfield County you’ll find charming country towns and rolling winter landscapes. Head to Salisbury for the weekend and post up at The White Hart, an elegant country inn with luxury appointed guest rooms and a recently revamped restaurant recognized by Bon Appetit as one of America’s best new eateries. Events abound, from an Artisan Holiday Market to live music. Be sure to jump in your Ford, as nearby towns and Massachusetts’ Berkshire mountains are all worthwhile day trips.

Belleayre, NY
The Catskills have your skiing and snowboarding needs covered this December. Located just over 2.5 hours from NYC, Belleayre is a perfect day trip or weekend destination. With 50 trails and over 1,400 feet of vertical, it’s big mountain skiing close to home. Hit the cruisers and the terrain parks, grab a gourmet burger at the summit’s Sunset Grill, then cap the day with some après-ski at the Overlook Lodge’s poplar pub.

Sag Harbor, NY
The Hamptons are happening in summer, almost too happening. Beat the crowds by heading out over the Holidays. Sure, the water’s too cold for a swim and the lobster rolls might be out of season, but you can immerse yourself in the small town charms and artist communities minus all the commercial nonsense. Sag Harbor tops our list thanks to its lovely town center that pulls out all the stops or Christmas. Stroll main street, as well as the empty beaches and wildlife preserve, then book a room at The American Hotel, where the only thing better than the boutique-y vibe is the restaurant’s expansive wine list.

CoCo Key Water Resort, Mount Laurel, NJ
Cure the kids’ cabin fever over the Holiday break with a trip down to CoCo Key Water Resort. This 55,000 square foot waterpark is completely indoors, meaning your plans are virtually weatherproof, while the kids are sure to love all the twists and turns of the four-story high slides. Book an overnight package, or hop in your Ford for the quick, 1.5 hour drive back to NYC.
