A source at NBC told Access Hollywood that the former "American Idol" judge is in talks with the network about starring in a new performance competition show alongside "High School Musical" and Michael Jackson's "This is it" choreographer Kenny Ortega.

Though still in the early stages of development, the source said the show would see Paula and longtime friend Kenny help competing contestants put on a huge show.

The show, which is still in development, is looking to feature memorable performances with potentially thousands of participants. It could also feature the public, which has led many to suspect it could have a connection with Flash Mobs, the social movement that sees people show up at locations and on cue, break into dance, song, pillow fights or a number of other actions.

A rep for Paula was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Access Hollywood.

3 Ball Productions, one of the production companies behind NBC's "The Biggest Loser," is being lined up for the new Paula-Kenny project, according to

Paula has reportedly yet to sign a contract with NBC for the new show.

Since her "American Idol" goodbye, the singing star has been offered a spot on the "Dancing with the Stars" cast. She has also been rumored to be joining Simon Cowell's "The X-Factor." Last week, she reportedly declined a hosting gig for a reboot of the popular '80s series "Star Search."
