Jon Stewart Lampoons Obama's Open-Mic Gaffe

"Mr. President, we can hear you capitulating to the Russians."

On Wednesday's edition of "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart poked fun at President Obama's much-maligned open-mic gaffe at a summit in South Korea, where Obama told Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he will have "more flexibility" on nuclear arms after the general election.

"Mr. President," Stewart said in a hushed tone, "we can hear you capitulating to the Russians."

The late-night host characterized Pres. Obama's attitude toward the election as flippant.

"I'd love to reduce the nuclear stockpile," Stewart-as-Obama said, "but my hands are tied until I'm, you know, done with these voters. I've got to act like an idiot until I get my second term."

Stewart segued from Pres. Obama's live-mic flub to an extended riff on the inadvertently "sinister" tone of Pres. Medvedev's response, "I will transmit this to Vladimir."

That reply, Stewart quipped, makes the list of "things that should only be spoken into a shoe phone."
