“Dancing With the Stars” All-Stars Recap: Veteran's Day Tributes and Trio Dances

The seven final contestants on Dancing With the Stars face a double-elimination tomorrow night, after having a week of safety.

We all saw this coming.

The seven final contestants on Dancing With the Stars face a double-elimination tomorrow night, after having a week of safety. Each pair took the floor to perform their dance of the night which was inspired by military aspects in honor of Veteran's Day, and then returned with an additional ballroom professional for a trio.

These two scores, combined with last week's score, is what placed each performer on the leaderboard, but we all know, that doesn't mean much when it comes to elimination night.

Coming off of a perfect 30 last week, Shawn Johnson reunited with her original partner Derek Hough for the Viennese waltz. "It was gentle, it was fabulous," Len Goodman said, while Bruno Tonioli called it "heavenly perfection." Was Shawn able to snag another perfect score this week with Derek? Almost.

For their trio, Mark Ballas joined in for an African-themed samba. In one of the most entertaining dances of the night, Shawn brought the "love triangle" back together and proved she can handle both Mark and Derek. Len didn't feel that way because of the little bit of samba involved. "Shawn, if you go home tomorrow, don't blame me. Blame those two." Meanwhile, Bruno thought it was "absolutely fantastic!"

Apolo Anton Ohno got risky with his tango with partner Karina Smirnoff by zip-lining from the skybox to the stage. Yes, dangerous, but he's OK. In fact, Len told him, "You're my hero, I'll tell ya," and Carrie Ann Inaba called their dance "Fantastic! I mean, wow!"

Sasha Farber joined Apolo and Karina for their jive trio. Bruno noted the huge risk it was for Apolo to mirror a pro, but said he conquered it. That's good! "That was your most vibrant performance," Carrie told him.

After being on the bottom last week, Kirstie Alley and Maks Chmerkovskiy needed to show the judges an amazing Viennese waltz. Luckily, they did. Inaba told Alley it was "one of your best dances," and Goodman agreed.

The "perfect little Irish angel" Tristan MacManus joined the duo and their fake wings for the paso doble trio. "I love the theme, I love the costumes, I love the presentation, but it was a little sloppy," Carrie said. "It could have been a little more refined," Bruno told them.

Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy also took on the Viennese waltz, and Goodman felt it "flowed nicely" but that the "movements were a little bit sharp for me." Oh, Len. Bruno simply explained it was because "she felt it" and had an emotional commitment to the song.

Monaco wanted Louis van Amstel join her and Val for their jive trio. "It was fun, it was fast, it was flamboyant, it was fabulous," Len, who got a kiss from Kelly at the end of the dance, said. "I loved it," Carrie said.

Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd have slowly been going down the leaderboard, but hoped their quickstep would return them to the top. And it did. Bruno called it "top gun," but Carrie said,"it was so close. It was almost top gun. There were a few little slips in his feet."

Marini and Murgatroyd were joined by Chelsie Hightower for a sexy salsa that involved multiple body rolls, hip shakes and shimmy-shaking. "Your intent in taking care of the ladies was so strong," Bruno said, "that you lost timing a little bit." However, Len said, "I thought you exposed yourself, you weren't hiding behind these two."

Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke danced the Viennese waltz, and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly amazing, either. "I wanna see more impact from you," Carrie said. But Goodman reminded us that, "This man puts the oo in smooth." But will that help Emmitt stay in the game?

Kym Johnson got into the salsa trio with Emmitt and Cheryl. "Boy, can you handle your women," Carrie told Emmit, who showed off his booty-shaking skills. "You do it naturally and it's great to see," Bruno said. It paid off, because they got their first 30.

Topping last week was Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani, and these two are making sure to stay in the game. Their quickstep "was the bee's knees," in Len's words. "It was as good as the best America's ever produced," Bruno said, and Carried added, "You're on fire!" It even gave them their first perfect score.

Melissa and Tony recruited Henry Byalikov for their paso doble, which called for Rycroft to bring out her dominatrix side. Her "ha, ha, ha" yell was pretty good, so did she channel the character like she had hoped? "Of all of our celebrities, and you're all great, you impress me the most," Len told Melissa. "You are flamboyantly fabulous," Bruno told her.
