Charlie Sheen: “I Don't Really Know What Happened”

A surprisingly sedate Charlie Sheen is taking the occasion of his imminent Comedy Central roast to finally sit down and take stock of the last few months.

In an interview with "Today" host Matt Lauer - which will air this Friday - Sheen admits to being "a lot calmer" and "a lot mellower" as he attempts to explain his spectacularly explosive exit from "Two and a Half Men," the ensuring media storm, and his raucous touring live show.

Looking back over the past year, Sheen claims even he was confused by what went down.

I don’t really know what happened," he says.  "It was one of those things where the planets were aligned, perfectly or imperfectly. I said some stuff and then it caught such traction globally and instantly that I couldn’t really put out the fire. I had to keep fueling it."

He added: "It was like being shot out of a cannon into another cannon and then being just shot out of that one. It was pretty exciting ... looking back on it, I don’t think I would trade it, but there are portions of it I would have amended a little bit."

Sheen then explained that he's re-focused on healing the strains that his antics put on his family and his own body.

"I’m seeing my kids a lot more, mending fences with [ex-wives] Denise [Richards] and Brooke [Mueller], just trying to move forward and prioritize what matters. You know, just really get back in touch with some more reality. It’s what I call the moments inside the moments."

During his public fight with "Two and a Half Men" producer Chuck Lorre, Sheen had referred to former co-star Jon Cryer as a "troll." He later apologized, and Cryer recently admitted that he still cherished his friendship with Sheen and feared for his safety during the controversy.

The rest of the interview will air this Friday on "Today." Sheen's Comedy Central roast airs Monday night, September 19th - the same night as Ashton Kutcher's debut on the new season of "Two and a Half Men."
