Lady GaGa's crazy performances are not new to her fans, but a tell-all biography reveals startling secrets about crazy diets and surprising insecurities.

Lady GaGa's lean eating habits bordered on dangerous, according to a new unauthorized biography by Maurenn Callahan, titled "Poker Face: the Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga."  The outrageous style icon's nearly non-existent calorie intake landed her in the hospital six times last year, Popeater reported in their review of the book.

"The pressure on her to lose weight was very high," talent scout Wendy Starland dished in the new bio.

Former manager David Ciemny also weighed in on the star's weight issues, saying GaGa's diet consisted mostly of junk food.

Over the past year, the high energy performer has nearly tanked on stage a number of times.

On an Indiana tour stop,  paramedics got called when the chart-topping diva passed out behind stage, causing  the concert to be postponed at the last minute. A month later, an exhausted GaGa gave New Zealand fans a scare when she flopped around on stage and nearly collapsed.

The book also takes critical aim at the starlet's personality.   "The 24-year-old woman, who's stage mantra is -- 'I'm a free b-tch,' is the polar opposite of who she is offstage," author Maureen Callahan writes.

Through interviews with friends and managers, Callahan paints the gutsy girl with a larger-than-life stage image as an inauthentic actress as inflated as her own 10-inch heels.

"When she says 'I live and breathe fashion'--she may be fooling other people, but she's not fooling me," an NYU classmate John Sheldrick said in the book.  "I don't mean to sound demeaning, but she was really normal."

Her sky-rocketing ambition, however, is clear from the earliest parts of her career, acquaintances said.

"You won't be able to order a cup of coffee at the f---ing deli without hearing or seeing me," Lady Gaga told an ex-boyfriend in 2008.

Callahan's book is due out on September 14.
