Cee Lo Green is throwing a jab at rival "American Idol."

The “Forget You “singer explained to The Hollywood Reporter why he turned down an offer to join former Idol judge Simon Cowell’s "The X Factor" show and hooked up with Mark Burnett’s latest production--the NBC singing competition show "The Voice."

“I knew the name and I knew the parties involved, but as an enterprise, I didn’t know what made it distinctive enough. Quite honestly, I felt like American Idol and these other entities had run their course.”

Green is one of the four coaches on "The Voice," hosted by Carson Daly, with Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton. The format of the show, based on Holland’s "The Voice of Holland" program, is three-fold: a blind audition, a battle phase, and in the end a live performance. Green’s role is to mentor the talent on his team.

“Not only do we have a competitive spirit amongst ourselves,” he said to The Hollywood Reporter, “but also we’ll compete with these other shows as well. And I like this one better.”
