“Book of Joel” No More: Billy Cancels Memoir

Go ahead with your own life, says Billy Joel, leave me alone.

Just a few months away from publishing his memoir "The Book of Joel," the singer has decided to pull the plug.

In a statement released to the Associated Press, Joel claims he simply changed his mind about delving into his early career, failed marriages (such as his high profile relationship with model Christie Brinkley), and substance abuse struggles.

"It took working on writing a book to make me realize that I'm not all that interested in talking about the past," said the statement. "And that the best expression of my life and its ups and downs has been and remains my music."

Just a few weeks ago, HarperCollins unveiled the title and cover art for the book, with a publication date set for this June.

The 61 year-old singer-songwriter was rumored to be getting somewhere in the vicinity of seven figures for the memoir, but no number has actually been confirmed by any party involved.
