A big ogre received the 2,408th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, just one day before the release of "Shrek: The Final Chapter."

Because an animated character cannot accept awards, Mike Myers, the voice of Shrek, accepted the star alongside a guy in a Shrek suit.

Myers thanked the fans of the film series, and praised "the unbelievable group of artists -- the animators, the producers, the writers, all the other actors" associated with it.

Shrek joins an elite class of animated figures to have stars, including Mickey Mouse, Snow White, Woody Woodpecker, Winnie-the-Pooh, Donald Duck and The Simpsons.

"Having gone from the swamp to a star here on Hollywood Boulevard, I think he truly does represent the great Hollywood dream,'' said DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg at the ceremony. "Like all great stars who are commemorated on this boulevard, Shrek is now surely and truly part of our culture. He is an ogre for all ages."

The first three Shrek films have brought in $2.2 billion in worldwide movie ticket sales.
