Arnold's “Last Stand”: Schwarzenegger Shooting New Film

He’ll be back – in a Western.

Arnold Schwarzenegger will return to the silver screen next year in “Last Stand,” a Western set to begin shooting in September that will also be the first test of Schwarzenegger's star power since the sex scandal that destroyed his marriage, Deadline.com reported on Monday.

"It's an old-fashioned Western specifically designed for a 63-year-old broken-down guy with a moral decision: whether Arnold decides to stand up for his town,” a Lionsgate exec told Deadline of the film. “We always needed an iconic figure for it."

According to Deadline, the former “Terminator”-star turned California governor had an early lock on the role. But Schwarzenegger announced in May that he was putting all film projects on hold in the wake of revelations he’d fathered a 13-year-old child with a member of the family’s household staff. Six weeks later, Schwarzenegger’s wife, Maria Shriver, filed for divorce.

Liam Neeson had become “attached” to the project in the interim, but Lionsgate dropped him because of scheduling issues, according to Deadline.

“Last Stand” will be the English-language debut of Korean director Jee-woon Kim, EW. com reported.

It’s also not the only Schwarzenegger film in the pipeline. He’ll play a horse trainer in the drama “Cry Macho” and may star in a fifth “Terminator,” according to EW.
