Jane Fonda To Play Nancy Reagan in New Film

The veteran actress is circling the role in the upcoming film "The Butler," about a long-serving White House employee.

Meryl Streep took home an Oscar this year for portraying conservative political icon Margaret Thatcher, and now Jane Fonda seems to be following her lead by taking on the role of former U.S. first lady Nancy Reagan.

The veteran actress has signed on for the upcoming film "The Butler" (directed by "Precious" director Lee Daniels), which follows the life of former White House butler Eugene Allen who served under eight presidents.

Allen is to be played by Forest Whitaker, with big names like Oprah Winfrey, Hugh Jackman, and Liam Neeson also being talked about for unspecified roles.

Fonda claimed to have retired from acting in 1990, but recently began returning to the big screen in films such as 2005's "Monster-in-Law" and 2007's "Georgia Rule."

No word on how large the part will be, or who is being considered to play the Ron to Fonda's Nancy. Let the speculation begin.
