Thanks to her starring role in the Swedish film version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” Noomi Rapace is poised to heighten her profile with American audiences on her next project.
The Swedish actress has reportedly landed the female lead in the upcoming "Sherlock Holmes 2," according to The Hollywood Reporter. It will be Rapace’s first English language role. It is uncertain if she will be a romantic interest in the film; sources say she may play a character who is a French Gypsy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress traveled to Los Angeles last month to meet with producers and directors to talk about entering the American film market.
A Hollywood film adaptation of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" is in the works with actress Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander, the role that was originally played by Rapace.
Set to return for the sequel to the first "Sherlock Holmes" movie are actors Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law, along with director Guy Ritchie. The plot for the movie is a secret, though the famed English detective will confront his archenemy Professor Moriarty. Holmes’s brother Mycroft will also be in the movie.
