‘The Voice' Coaches Pay Tribute to Prince

"It's a shock. We're gonna miss him, but every time I see purple, and I know everybody else here too, we will definitely be thinking of Prince"

The music community is still reeling from the loss of Prince last week, and Monday's episode of "The Voice" saw all four coaches take a minute to pay tribute to the groundbreaking artist in a very simple, honest way.

There was no performance (unfortunately, because you know something like that would've been magical), just a few minutes at the top of the show for each coach to say a few words about how much Prince meant to them and what an impact he had on the music industry as a whole. Check out the video above.

"I just have a lot of respect for someone who's able to continue to make music and never change anything about who he was – that's inspiring and I'm going to miss this guy so much," said Levine.

Pharrell Williams recalled his Aunt Eileen from Virginia Beach getting her copy of "Purple Rain" in the mail and how much the family listened to it throughout his childhood. "When that 'Purple Rain' album came, it played in that apartment complex for the rest of the summers, all my childhood," he said.

He added, "It's a shock. We're gonna miss him, but every time I see purple, and I know everybody else here too, we will definitely be thinking of Prince."

Aguilera appreciated his ability to stay genuine and his own artist over the decades. "He will always be such an inspiration for every generation to come in music," she said. "It's so fascinating and so amazing to listen to his genius on record. So many songs, no matter what age, what era, it would be a hit. That's a true sign of somebody that's timeless and legendary."

Finally, Blake Shelton shared how much Prince can pick him up. "His music, still to this day, can change my day," he said. "It changes my mood whenever I hear it."

(Coaches Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera also opened up to E! News about his impact last week.)

"The Voice" airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.

(E! and NBC are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
