Ex-Boyfriend of Broadway Actress Arrested Outside Theater for Threats: NYPD

The ex-boyfriend of an actress in the Broadway musical "The Color Purple" was arrested outside the theater Saturday for allegedly threatening her while carrying a knife, according to prosecutors and published reports.

The man, 28-year-old Christopher Horton, had a knife in his pocket when he was arrested near the Bernard Jacobs Theatre Saturday night, according to a criminal complaint by Manhattan prosecutors. He was charged with aggravated harassment, stalking and weapons possession.

The Daily News reports Horton's ex-girlfriend is Joaquina Kalukango, who stars as Nettie in "The Color Purple."

Kalukango told theater officials days earlier that she was worried because Horton was sending violent threats through text messages and Facebook, the paper said.

The messages read: "She'll feel it soon and you will all regret what you did"; "The main event is coming, just be patient"; "Somebody's going to die"; and "Pay for security," according to the complaint.

He then went to the theater Saturday afternoon and yelled at her when she showed up, the News reported. Kalukango alerted her stage manager, who called theater security. They in turn flagged an NYPD sergeant on the street.

Horton was arraigned Monday afternoon and jailed on $7,500 bail. He's next expected to appear in court Feb. 26.

He was being represented by Legal Aid, which typically does not comment on its cases.
