Oscar Buzz Building For Oprah's New Film Role

"The Butler" marks Winfrey's first big screen appearance since 1998's "Beloved"

Oprah Winfrey's second act appears to be working out just fine.

The former talk show queen is starting to generate buzz for her role in "The Butler," a film based on the true story of White House head butler Eugene Allen scheduled for release next month.

Whispers about her stunning performance first cropped up following early screenings in May, but with the movie scheduled to open on August 16, the chatter is getting significantly louder.

Entertainment journalist Roger Friedman of Showbiz411.com described a recent showing where a number of people were crying throughout the movie.

"Oprah gets a scene stealing Oscar moment that is going to take her right into every awards show. If I had to bet now, I’d say she wins Best Supporting Actress. She’s that good."

Winfrey portrays a character named Gloria Gaines in the movie, a character inspired by butler’s wife.

Winfrey was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for "The Color Purple" in 1985, her first acting role.

"The Butler" marks her first appearance on the big screen since the "Beloved" in 1998.
