A tour bus carrying country music star Jason Aldean struck and killed a man Monday morning in Knox County, Ind.

The man, Albert Kennedy of nearby Vincennes, Ind., was born in 1963, making him either 49 or 50, County Sheriff Michael Morris told NBC News.

Information as to why Kennedy was walking U.S. Highway 41 at around 1:30 a.m. when the collision occurred was not released. Kennedy was pronounced dead at the scene with massive head and chest injuries.

Nashville-based Aldean released a statement on Facebook and Twitter expressing sorrow over the incident:

"With a heavy heart, I'm sad to say that a man passed away last night after stepping out in front of my bus in Indiana. In all the years I've been touring and all the miles we've driven, nothing prepares you for something like this to happen. I'm praying for Albert Kennedy's family and friends today and ask that you do the same."

The "My Kinda Party" singer had performed his eighth annual "Concert for the Cure" in New Orleans Friday, according to his website. Aldean raised more than $575,000 to help support a local affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the fight against breast cancer.

In April Aldean filed for divorce from his wife Jessica citing irreconcilable differences. That filing came six months after Aldean was photographed while appearing to kiss former "American Idol" contestant Brittany Kerr in a Los Angeles bar. Aldean later apologized to fans on Twitter for acting inappropriately.

Aldean is country's top-selling male act. He hosted the CMT Music Awards in April and is scheduled to begin a national tour in January.
