‘Mortified' Mariah Carey Discusses ‘Horrible New Year's Eve'

Carey spoke to Entertainment Weekly in her first interview since the show in which she stumbled through her songs

Mariah Carey says she was "mortified" in "real time" during her disastrous live performance just before the ball dropped on ABC's "Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve."

Carey spoke to Entertainment Weekly in her first interview since the show in which she stumbled through her songs. At many points she stopped singing, even while a prerecorded vocal track played in the background.

"I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time," the superstar said.

Carey explained that the mishap won't keep her from performing on live TV, but she will be more cautious.

"It will make me less trusting of using anyone outside of my own team," she said.

While many fans and other celebrities were quick to lash out on social media, Carey added that her "true fans" have shown nothing but love.

New Year's Eve Around The World

"I am so appreciative of them and everybody in the media that came out to support me after the fact because it really was an incredible holiday season that turned into a horrible New Year’s Eve."

Carey reiterated that stance to EW, praising the late Clark and saying that he "would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time." She described the night as "horrible."

Dick Clark Productions has called the Carey camp's claims "absurd."
