Kathy Griffin Axed by CNN Over Trump Decapitation Pic

Griffin is scheduled to speak to media Friday with her attorney

Donald Trump lost his head. She lost her job.

Kathy Griffin's job as co-host of CNN's New Year's Eve broadcast just became the latest casualty of the comic's ill-conceived Trump decapitation photo shoot. The network announced they were axing Griffin from its airwaves.

Anderson Cooper, who has co-hosted the special with Griffin for the past decade, was one of several personalities who publicly condemned Griffin's photo.

Following the backlash Griffin removed the photo from her social media account and apologized.

"I'm a comic. I crossed the line. I moved the line, then I crossed it. I went way too far," Griffin said.

"The image is too disturbing," she added. "I understand how it offends people. It wasn't funny.”

But it was too little, too late as Griffin found herself on the receiving end of an avalanche of condemnation, including from both Trump and his wife Melania.

"As a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing," Melania Trump said in a statement to NBC News. "When you consider some of the atrocities happening in the world today, a photo opportunity like this is simply wrong and makes you wonder about the mental health of the person who did it."

Griffin announced Thursday through a statement that she will address the media Friday with her attorney Lisa Bloom in a press conference. The statement indicates that Bloom and Griffin will "explain the true motivation behind the image, and respond to the bullying from the Trump family she has endured."

A New Mexico casino said it has canceled a performance by Griffin. She was scheduled to perform at Route 66 Casino, operated by Laguna Pueblo, on July 22.

She also lost a commercial endorsement deal that she landed just three weeks ago. Squatty Potty, a Utah-based company whose products include toilet stools and other bathroom accessories, said it was suspending an ad campaign that featured Griffin.
