Jimmy Kimmel Tapped to Host Academy Awards

Kimmel previously hosted the 2012 and 2016 Emmy Awards

Oscar has his man.

Late night host Jimmy Kimmel has been tapped to host the 89th Academy Awards telecast.

While it will be his first time hosting the Academy Awards, the host of “Late Night With Jimmy Kimmel” is no stranger to taking the helm at major award shows. Kimmel has previously hosted the 2012 and 2016 Emmy Awards as well as the 2007 ESPYS and the American Music Awards on multiple occasions.

Chris Rock hosted last year's telecast, which occurred in the midst of a backlash focusing on the lack of African American nominees and subsequent #Oscarssowhite protests. That telecast drew only 34 million viewers, an 8-year low.

This year's telecast will air Feb. 26 on ABC.

Jimmy Kimmel chats about getting ready to host the 2012 Emmys. What does he think about moving “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to go up against Jay Leno and David Letterman’s shows?
